History of the House

The former villa of Theodor Eicke (1892–1943) the inspector of  concentration camps, was transformed into an international youth centre and youth hostel in 2006.
Today the house is named after the Polish writer Andrzej Szczypiorski (1928–2000). After the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, he was taken to Sachsenhausen concentration camp as a teenager. Szczypiorski became famous for his literary adaptation of the Polish experience of occupation and World War II.
The house is operated in cooperation with the Sachsenhausen Memorial and the German Youth Hostel Association, Berlin-Brandenburg Regional Association.
